The University of Waterloo is recognized as a global leader in innovative thinking and collaborates with industry to build bridges between disciplines, institutions and communities. The Bata Innovation Lab is the first international industry name to partner with the university’s iCapstone academic program to foster innovative engineering design and research-thinking among students.
BIL will hire an interdisciplinary team made up of three of Waterloo’s engineering students and install them in real-life workplace situations in Bata’s Colombia factory. This team will identify areas in need of development and formulate design proposals for improving manufacturing efficiencies and business performance. After graduation, there may be opportunity for these students to work with Bata as consultants to implement their proposals.
Reduced costs means savings for the shoe-buyer, while improved manufacturing efficiency augments product quality. Either way, it’s win-win for the consumer.
